General Policy

Fuwa Fest General Policy

Fursuiting Guidelines

  • Designated Suiting Areas: Wear fursuits only in approved locations (2nd-floor loft, courtyard, and open-air patios). Full heads and masks must remain outside all indoor shops, markets, and restaurants, per venue rules.

  • Respect Indoor Spaces: Do not suit in or near any of Industry City’s business spaces. If you remove part of your costume (e.g. head or paws) to enter a store or café, carry it respectfully and promptly return to the permitted area to put it back on.

Respect and General Conduct

  • Respect Everyone: Treat all attendees, staff, visitors, and tenants with kindness and courtesy. Keep noise and behavior appropriate for a public, family-friendly event. Do not block entrances, aisles, or walkways with costumes or belongings.

  • No Harassment: Harassment, intimidation, hate speech, or discrimination of any kind will not be tolerated. Do not touch, hug, or make physical contact with anyone without explicit consent. Do not use rude or offensive language or gestures.

  • Consent for Photos/Videos: Always ask permission before taking photos or videos of individuals or small groups. If someone declines, respect their privacy immediately. This applies to everyone, whether in costume or not.

  • Be Mindful of Bystanders: Industry City is a public space. Do not disrupt or alarm non-participants. Keep fursuit performances and meetups contained, and move aside for passing traffic. Use a handler/spotter if needed to navigate crowds safely.

Costume and Dress Code

  • PG Rating: Costumes, clothing, and accessories must be suitable for all ages. No explicit, fetish, or obscene attire or symbols are allowed. Avoid costumes that depict extreme violence, gore, nudity, or offensive imagery.

  • No Hate Symbols: Absolutely no extremist, racist, or hate-group symbols, slogans, or imagery on costumes or clothing.

  • Appropriate Dress: Attendees not in full fursuit must wear at least a shirt, pants or skirt, and shoes. Costumes resembling police, military, or other official uniforms are only permitted if you are on actual duty. Collars and leashes may not be worn at this event.

  • Public Decorum: Keep public displays of affection or provocativeness to a minimum (polite hugging is fine, but no stripping or adult-themed acts).

Photography and Media

  • Respect Privacy: Do not photograph or film anyone without their explicit consent. When in doubt, ask. Do not take pictures of private gatherings or someone showing obvious discomfort.

  • Official Photographers: NYFurs may have official photographers at the event who will follow consent rules. Attendees are encouraged to allow them to take photos (with permission). Do not use cameras or drones without clearance.

  • Sharing Images: Only post or share photos/videos of others online if you have their permission. If someone asks you to delete a photo of them, do so immediately.

Safety and Prohibited Items

  • Keep Props Safe: All props, tails, wings, etc. must be kept under control. Do not swing or extend them into the personal space of others or into displays. Ensure that long items (poles, tail extensions) are carried carefully in crowds.

  • No Weapons or Projectiles: No real weapons or realistic replicas. Toy weapons that shoot or launch projectiles (water guns, Nerf guns, darts, lasers, etc.) are prohibited.

  • No Dangerous Devices: Drones, hoverboards, rollerblades, and other similar devices are not allowed inside event areas. Do not bring items that could accidentally injure someone (e.g. swords, even peace-bonded, without approval).

  • Avoid Unsafe Behavior: Do not run, jump, skateboard, or do anything that could cause collisions or falls in crowded spaces.

Alcohol, Drugs, and Smoking

  • Substance Use: No illegal drugs or unapproved substances are allowed. If alcohol is permitted at certain areas of the event (outdoors or designated zones), only adults of legal drinking age may consume it, and only in the approved areas.

  • No Smoking Indoors: There is no smoking or vaping inside any building. Smoking (including e-cigarettes) is allowed only in clearly marked outdoor smoking areas. Keep at least 20 feet away from building entrances when smoking.

Venue Compliance

  • Follow Staff Instructions: Japan Village security have the authority to enforce these rules. Please comply with their directions promptly. If asked to move, stop an activity, or leave an area, do so immediately.

  • Safety First: Keep all exits and pathways clear. Do not sit or lie in walkways or block any fire exits.

  • Liability: Participation is voluntary. NYFurs and event organizers are not responsible for personal injuries, losses, or damages that may occur. Keep any needed medications or emergency contacts handy, as you are responsible for your own well-being. Staff are not responsible for lost or damaged personal items (including fursuits, electronics, etc.), so keep your belongings secure.

Cleanliness and Environment

  • Trash: Dispose of all garbage and recyclables in the bins provided. Do not leave any trash on the floor. Help us keep Industry City and Japan Village clean for everyone.

  • Respect Property: Do not sit on or lean against merchandise displays, artwork, or fragile structures. Avoid placing costumes or gear on furniture unless it’s provided for event use. Treat all venue fixtures and decor with care.

Children and Guardians

  • Minors: Children under 13 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. Guardians are responsible for keeping their children safe and behaving appropriately.

  • Family-Friendly: Remember that young children may be present. Ensure any play, costumes, or jokes are appropriate for a general audience.
